The birth of an icon: Santos de Cartier. When Louis Cartier met Brazilian born aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont in 1900, little could either man have known what a true revolution in the world of time-keeping their friendship would create.
In 1901 the aviator complained of his difficulty checking the time on his pocket watch while flying. Three years later Louis Cartier revolutionised watchmaking by inventing the first purpose-designed modern wristwatch for Santos-Dumont.
The Santos de Cartier went on to become a true classic in the world of wrist watches and still endures today as the epitome of style and function. The range of sunspec frames which also bear the name can be seen in our bespoke window display. The last image in the gallery shows Alberto Santos-Dumont in his first balloon, the Bresil along with one of the stunning Santos de Cartier frames we have in stock.
