Jim Mallinder and Brian Facer in L'Etape du Tour
We recently welcomed Northampton Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder and sales and marketing manager Brian Facer to be fitted with eyewear to aid them on their upcoming L'Etape du Tour challenge for charity.
The pair will be racing one of the most difficult stages of the Tour de France on 14th July 2012 to raise money for the Puzzle Centre; a charity which helps children with autism and other communication needs.
Jim was fitted with the Adidas Retego in matching Saints colours black and green and Brian was fitted with the Oakley Fast Jacket. Both sunspecs have interchageable lenses to cope with varying light conditions and will protect their eyes and the delicate skin around them from the sun, wind and possibly rain!
We wish them the best of luck for their challenge!!
Oakley Pitt Bull for the Mont Blanc Massif Trek

We are delighted to have gifted Maria Dineen with a pair of Oakley Pit Bull sunglasses as she embarks on the Mont Blanc Massif Trek.
Members of the Pertemps team who are taking part in the challenge will be aiming the reach the peak of Mont Blanc in the French Alps which is 15,800 feet above sea level in 5 days. They are all raising funds for charities such as NSPKU (The National Society for Phenylketonuria (United Kingdom) Ltd).
The Oakley sunglasses have polarized lenses which are perfect for this challenge as they will reduce the glare at such a high altitude keeping visibility as clear as possible. The lenses are made of Oakley’s Plutonite which has high impact resistance and complete Ultra Violet filter throughout the lens.
The black iridium tint on the lenses is also very beneficial as they work best in very bright conditions. The tint only allows 10% light transmission and therefore at the high altitudes of Mont Blanc Maria’s eyes will be protected.
We wish them all the luck in the world and hope they raise lots of funds for this very worthy cause.

Sheinman descended on Hogwarts recently and our ambassadors were Marco, Bella and Luca children of Enza whom is one of our receptionists. The trio entered Hogwarts disguised as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley however they were caught by Professor McGonagall and as punishment Ronald was turned into Wally for the day.

MOSCOT eyewear is a collection which was born in the United States of America in 1899. Mr Hyman Moscot started the brand by selling spectacles on Orchard Street in Manhattan, New York.
A few years later in 1925 Mr Hyman Moscot passed over the reins to son Sol Moscot whom expanded the brand and opened the very first MOSCOT shop in Rivington Street. The Moscot family then decided in 1936 to relocate the family business to Orchard Street where it still thrives today.
In 1951 Joel son of Sol Moscot inherited the MOSCOT brand. Joel was driven by the strong believe of maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction and ensuring family values were upheld.
1986 saw the arrival of Dr. Harvey Moscot, soon to be joined by his brother Kenny Moscot in 1992, who to this present day are still running the MOSCOT empire in its current form and unique world renown style.
Their now famous flag ship shop opened the same year on 69 West 14th Street on the corner of Sixth Avenue in downtown Manhattan.
The entire MOSCOT brand incorporates styles which are classic yet timeless, and are regularly worn and styled by Pirates of the Caribbean star Jonny Depp amongst others.

Hand made in Japan, only the highest quality materials are used in the production of these frames: Titanium, 18K gold, white gold and Japanese zyl. Designs are inspired by vintage frames from the 50's through to the 80's. The logo details are intentionally subtle so that the frame itself defines the wearer's look rather than the logo.

June and July saw us run a promotion in conjunction with Nikon Optical and Tag Heuer frames; anyone buying a product from either brand was entered into a free prize draw to win a Nikon Coolpix P100 camera. Sheinman patient makes Base Camp
Back in May we featured a patient of ours, Ellie Parker who was hoping to climb to base camp on Mount Everest to raise money for the charity Childreach. We were happy to supply her with some prescription Oakley Fives sunspecs to ensure her eyes and the delicate skin around them was protected from the high levels of Ultra Violet radiation she would encounter at this altitude.
Ellie has been back in touch recently to inform us that her trip was a success and we are pleased to include some photographs from her trip, she has also provided us with some more detail about the expedition:
"We left Kathmandu and flew to Lukla on the 6th September, and began the trek on the following day. It took eight days to trek up to base camp and three days to trek down, arriving back at Lukla on the 17th. We stayed at tea houses run by Sherpas in the villages along the way who carried our large rucksacks for us and cooked all our meals. It was an exhausting but amazing experience- the views were incredible! The Childreach project we visited on the way up was at Lukla and we also visited a Buddhist monastery. The whole trip was fantastic and a great success- every one of us made it to base camp. The sunglasses were an essential as the light was so bright up there and not only did they protect my eyes but allowed me to take in all the amazing views clearly!

Overtime the Oakley brand and in particular the eye goggles became better known, so much so that by 1984 Oakley as a brand produced its very first pair of Oakley sunglasses, the Eyeshade. This first pair of Oakley sunglasses had removable lenses and was made entirely of strengthened plastic, they were light weight and flexible and with their removable lenses it didn’t matter if they became squashed at the bottom of the bag, the lenses would simply pop out rather than break or crack.

This premier eyewear design in the new Elite collection blends carbon fiber with customized mechanics and the world’s best optical technologies. Called Oakley Elite C SIX, its moniker comes from the fact that carbon (the “C” in the name) is the 6th element in the periodic table, hence “C SIX.” This invention was inspired by more than just the passion to create the ultimate sunglasses. “We took examples from segmented creatures in the animal kingdom,” said Senior Design Director Peter Yee. “We looked at animals like the armadillo and studied how parts move and slide. Ellie, a student from Northampton intends to tackle Mount Everest in support of a children's charity. In order to do this, she needs to raise £2000 by July.

My surprise at the Tour de France
It started out as an innocent comment but I never imagined I would be walking the streets of Paris two days later. I had never been but had always wanted to go. For me it was one of those things you did with your lover not a professional cycling team.
I had heard of the Tour de France as most people have but knew absolutely nothing about cycling, so when out of the blue my friend asked me to come along to host VIP's for a test team it was surreal. I was only required to find my own way to Paris and the rest was covered. As it was only an hour by plane I decided there was no way I could pass up the opportunity. So I searched the Internet for a last minute flight and next thing I knew I was on the plane.
There was excitement in the air as I arrived in Paris. It was very apparent that something big was happening. It is even more important for babies and children to use good quality sunglasses as young eyes are even more vulnerable to damage from sunlight. Bear in mind that a hat or cap with a large brim can reduce harmful glare but 50% and is especially essential for babies.
Make sure your family all understand the importance of keeping eyes healthy, and don’t forget that regular eye examinations will minimise any risk!

Lynne Scotten has been coming to Sheinman for over twenty years, she's mad about motorbikes and wants to use her hour on the plinth to reflect this; we were only too happy to help her out by supplying a pair of Oakley sunglasses to top off her biker chic!! "One and Other" is the brain child of Antony Gormley, the famous artist responsible for work such as the Angel of the North and Another Place. This project puts a different member of the public on the plinth every hour, 24 hours a day for 100 days. Sheinman Team enter Dragon Boat Festival 2009
Eye Eye Cap'n take to the water again!
We had a great time competing in the Dragon Boat festival on Sunday 12th July, raising money for the Northants/Warwicks Air Ambulance and Cynthia Specer Hospice in Northampton. It had been a few years since we'd taken part, the last time had been under very wet and cold weather, thankfully it was a beautiful day by the river this year.
There were 11 of us in the boat, 10 rowers and one very brave drummer! We had three heats, all of our races were really closely fought and in our second race we posted one of the fastest times of the day. We narrowly missed out on getting through to the semi-finals by 2 seconds which was disappointing, but made a little easier by the fact that the team that beat us in Heat 3 went on the win the final! It was jolly hard work in the races but we all had a great day and knowing that we were raising money for such fantastic causes made it all the more worthwhile. We had a brilliant support team as well, thanks to Val and Jane for all their hard work on the banks and to all the friends and family who turned out to cheer us on!!
